this in massachusetts. if you talk to democrats in massachusetts, they say romney was a very good governor, that they could work with him. maybe obama saw this because the significance of the last 3 1/2 years in the obama presidency is there was never cooperation or rarely cooperation. no or very few bipartisan agreements. the only time they did something was when they brought joe biden in to negotiate with the republicans. so maybe obama sensed that. but i don't know -- it's worthy to investigate. >> sean: yeah. one theory i have, i want to ask you one more question about your theory. i would argue, $6 trilon in debt, very hard to explain away. i would argue that, you know when 2012 economically is worse than 2011, which was worse than 2010, unemployment in 2012, fewer jobs in this year than last year and the year before. things are trending down. obviously, that's troubling for the president in terms of trying to defend it. but back to your theory, if he was so bad that there something else going on, that could be troubling in and of itself. you know, we need presidents that are strong.

in there and not allow governor romney to set the debate or control the debate or use facts that aren't real. he needs to sit there and look governor romney in the eye and say listen. you sit there and tell the american people they're not better off. tell the 5 million people that have jobs today that they're not better off. tell the 37 million people who have health care and are going to have health care that they're not better off. tell the soldiers that are coming back from iraq, back from afghanistan that they're not better off. the president needs to do a full throated defense of his presidency and not allow governor romney to define his presidency for him. this helps significantly. >> and, chris, quickly do we hear mitt romney continue to say that president obama doesn't understand the economy? does this put him in a box? >> well, to some extent but governor romney is going to use his statistics to paint his picture and we saw that. and i think this is one of the things that i would, you know, strongly recommend to the obama campaign. romney was a blizzard of statistics in that debate but a lot

to make you aggregate the president and the groups on the left and governor romney and the groups on the right, it is gov. romney's side come if you will, that has a higher weight on television. that is a big important part of the finance report the republican national committee and the democratic national committee use to be able to do this. basically, the entities that are most accountable to the voters are the candidates themselves. that to stand behind their ads and put their faces on their ads and say they authorized to this. they are ultimately the people that are voted on. the next layer route is the party commission. they are held to account. they're the closest thing compared to the candidates to be held to account. the dga and the rga figured that out for it quickly. this is the result of a lot of people with good intentions who feel that money has no place in politics. but they ended up putting many outside. there's the share of spending by candidates in the past, well before 2002, it was. -- it was. -- it was 50/50. you started to move back and then you have the party
